The CHS European, Middle East and African regional meeting was held in London, UK from June 15 to 17, 2017. Congratulations to the CHS London chapter and EMEA regional leadership for hosting such an enjoyable event!

Cornellians Celebrate Happy Hour In Nashville

NYC Chapter Happy Hour at 1Hotel Brooklyn
/in Uncategorized/by Robert MandelbaumOn July 27th, CHS NYC Chapter organized a special tour and rooftop happy hour at the brand new 1Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. The hotel is a waterfront retreat, with expansive views of the East River and Manhattan skyline. It is designed by local artists using native greenery and reclaimed materials.

Georgia Chapter Pizza Party
/in Uncategorized/by Robert MandelbaumOn Tuesday, August 10, the Georgia chapter gathered at the Mellow Mushroom Brookhaven restaurant to host new and current students from The Hotel School. Our special guest of honor was incoming freshman Tyler Sturdivant, ’21. On hand to provide their guidance and insights were three current Hotelies, each of whom had internships in Atlanta during the summer. They were Mark Svenjak ’18, Nina Bachich ’19, and Sharonee Vaca ’19. The Georgia Chapter wishes all students from the Peach State great success during the 2017 / 2018 school year.

CHS France Hosts Michael Nowlis
/in Uncategorized/by Robert MandelbaumOn Monday, July 17, 2017 the CHS France chapter hosted Michael Nowlis, the Associate Dean for Executive MBA programs at the SC Johnson Graduate School of Management. The event was held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Paris.
Michael previously worked for Cornell as Lecturer and Director of the Institut de Management Hôtelier International (IMHI) program in Paris. Therefore, alumni from IMHI were invited to join the Hotelies that graduated from programs in Ithaca. A total of nine people attended the event organized by CHS France chapter President Monika Moser, PDP ’99 and IMHI ’10.

14th Annual Phyllis and Bill Eaton ’61 Cornell Mid-Atlantic Crab Feast
/in Uncategorized/by Robert MandelbaumOn June 25, 2017, 457 Cornellians (including 25 Hotelies) and their family members attended the 14th Mid-Atlantic Crab Feast. This annual event is held at the home of Phyllis and Bill Eaton – Hotel ’61 on the east shore of the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to mounds of crabs, attendees enjoyed nature walks, games, and live music.

CHS Finland Meets At Linnanmaki Amusement Park
/in Uncategorized/by Robert MandelbaumOn May 30, 2017, the CHS Finland Chapter met at the Linnanmaki Amusement Park in Helsinki. The event was hosted by Pia Adlivankin MD ’94.
Linnanmaki Amusement Park benefits various children’s organizations. In 2016, the park generated 4.3 million Euros to help children. Pia gave an interesting talk about the strategy of the Amusement park and how they take care of their staff.

CHS South Florida – Why The Hotel Industry Is Embracing Virtual Reality
/in Uncategorized/by Robert MandelbaumOn June 14, 2017, the CHS South Florida chapter, in conjunction with the local HSMAI chapter, hosted a seminar entitled, “Why The Hotel Industry Is Embracing Virtual Reality”. The event was held at The Betsy Hotel in South Beach. Following a rooftop reception, the group listened to a panel of industry authorities including Antonio Batananero, co-founder of FirstView, Marco Fanton, Global Social Media Director of Melia Hotels, and Benji Greenberg, Chief Executive Officer of BCV Social. Moderating the panel was Miguel Alonso Jr., Ph.D., Director of Research and Economic Development, Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Florida International University.

CHS Korea Entertains Students at S. Tavern
/in Uncategorized/by Robert MandelbaumOn Friday, June 16, 2017 the Korean CHS chapter held one of their periodic dinner gatherings at S. Tavern in Seoul. S. Tavern was opened by Korean Master Chef winner Song Hoon in 2016 and features “American Cuisine”. During their summer dinner gathering the chapter invites current students from Ithaca to join them. Also in town for the event was Raeanna R. Cranbourne ’98 from the Philippines.
