Atlanta Hotelies Celebrate 100th Anniversary

On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, more than 30 Atlanta area Hotelies celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Cornell Nolan School of Hotel Administration.  The event was held at The Iberian Pig Buckhead.  Our host was owner Stephanie Castellucci ’09.  The group enjoyed a variety of Spanish tapas and specialty drinks, as well as novelties from the “party box” provided by CHS and SHA.

The CHS Georgia Chapter was honored to have several young alumni, as well as CHS leaders in attendance:

CHS Georgia Tours the Renovated Hotel Clermont

On Monday, November 5th, CHS Georgia toured and got drinks at the newly redeveloped Hotel Clermont. Ten of us were hosted by the hotel’s General Manager, Alan Rae, through the rooms, restaurant, and rooftop bar while getting the history of the building and the details of the extensive renovation and redevelopment.

On July 26, 2018 the CHS Georgia chapter entertained current Hotel School students that are interning in Atlanta for the summer. The event was held at The Southern Gentleman restaurant in Buckhead.

Georgia Chapter Tours New Omni at the Battery

On Thursday, February 27, 2018, the CHS Georgia chapter toured the new Omni Hotel at the Battery. The Battery is a multi-use development that is anchored by the new stadium for the Atlanta Braves baseball team. After some hors d’oeuvres and drinks, the 11 Hotelies and guests in attendance toured the multiple public spaces, guest rooms, and suites of the property, many of which have direct views into the baseball stadium. Thank you to Charlie Muller ’81 for making the introduction to the property management.

Georgia Chapter Celebrates the Holidays

On Sunday, December 3, 2017, the Georgia chapter held their annual holiday party at the home of Tim (MMH ’88) and Karen (Johnson ’13) Dick. Stepping in as Santa Clause for this year’s gift exchange was chapter President Drew Wallace MMH ’12. Thanks to Alan LeBlanc ’84 (Max Lager’s American Grill and Brewery) who donated a keg of beer.

CHS Georgia Tours Avalon

On Sunday, October 22, 2017, the Georgia Chapter of the Cornell Hotel Society hosted a walking tour at Avalon followed by lunch at Antico Pizza.  Avalon is an 86-acre walkable, seamlessly connected, sustainable community of shopping, dining, entertainment, living and working.  The event was attended by approximately 14 local members and hosted by Jim Stormont, Johnson MBA ’85 of Stormont Hospitality Group LLC.

Atlanta Lodging Outlook 2018

A crowd of 340 area hotel industry professionals attended the 19th annual seminar.  This year’s event was held at the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead.  Our host was Brian Ettelman ’87, Director of Catering.

Atlanta Lodging Outlook is organized by the CHS Georgia Chapter with promotional assistance from the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Georgia Hotel and Lodging Association. The seminar is designed to provide hotel owners and operators with the information they need to prepare their marketing plans and budgets for the upcoming year.

CHS Georgia chapter Vice President Sachin Desai ‘14 opened the proceedings, followed by Jim Sprouse, President of the Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association.

During the first half of the seminar, Kirk Kinsell ’80 moderated a discussion on current sales and marketing issues. The panelists included Brian Berry ’91, SVP of Revenue Management for Host Hotels and Resorts, Apo Demirtas, Ph.D., CEO of Intelligent Hospitality, Natalie Osborn, Director of Marketing for SAS Hospitality and Gaming, and Kathy Hood, VP of Sales, Marketing and Revenue Management for Davidson Hotels and Resorts.  Special thanks to Bob Gilbert ’82, President and CEO of Hotel Sales and Marketing Association International for helping put the panel together.

Following the sales and marketing discussion, a panel of local area experts presented their outlook for 2018:

  • Roger Tutterow Ph.D., Professor of Economics at Kennesaw State University
  • Mark Vaughan, EVP and Chief Sales Officer for the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • Mark Woodworth ’77, Senior Managing Director of CBRE Hotels’ Americas Research

Proceeds from the event help support the Georgia chapter’s scholarship fund.

On Tuesday, August 10, the Georgia chapter gathered at the Mellow Mushroom Brookhaven restaurant to host new and current students from The Hotel School.  Our special guest of honor was incoming freshman Tyler Sturdivant, ’21.  On hand to provide their guidance and insights were three current Hotelies, each of whom had internships in Atlanta during the summer.  They were Mark Svenjak ’18, Nina Bachich ’19, and Sharonee Vaca ’19.  The Georgia Chapter wishes all students from the Peach State great success during the 2017 / 2018 school year.

Hotelies Gather At The Hunter Conference

On March 22 the CHS Georgia Chapter held its second annual reception during the 2017 Hunter Hotel Conference. The event was hosted by Alan LeBlanc ’84 at his restaurant, White Oak Kitchen and Cocktails. The event was organized by CHS Georgia Chapter President Drew Wallace MMH ’12.
