Atlanta Lodging Outlook 2021

On Wednesday, September 16, 2020 the CHS Georgia Chapter held its 21st annual Atlanta Lodging Outlook seminar.  This year CHS partnered with the Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association to produce the conference online.  The virtual event drew roughly 200 hoteliers throughout the state of Georgia.

Representing CHS were chapter Treasurer Liad Hare ’18 who welcomed the attendees, and Mark Woodworth ’77 who moderated the panel discussion.  Attendees received an update on current and future market conditions from Mark Vaughan, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Jamie Lane, Senior Director of CBRE Hotels Research.

Atlanta Lodging Outlook 2019

On Tuesday, September 4, 2018 the Georgia Chapter of the Cornell Hotel Society held its annual Atlanta Lodging Outlook breakfast seminar. A crowd of 320 area hotel industry professionals attended the 20th annual seminar. This year’s event was held at the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead. Our host was Brian Ettelman ’87, Director of Catering.

CHS Georgia chapter President Drew Wallace ‘12 opened the proceedings, followed by Chip Rogers, President and CEO of the Asian American Hotel and Lodging Association, and Jim Sprouse, President of the Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association.

The first panel of speakers discussed economic development activity around the metropolitan area. The panelists included Nick Masino with Partnership Gwinnett, Jennifer Ball with Central Atlanta Progress, and Shannon W. James Sr. with Aerotropolis Atlanta Alliance, Inc.

Following the economic development discussion, a panel of local area experts presented their outlook for 2019:

  • Roger Tutterow Ph.D., Professor of Economics at Kennesaw State University
  • Mark Vaughan, EVP and Chief Sales Officer for the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • Mark Woodworth ’77, Senior Managing Director of CBRE Hotels’ Americas Research

Thanks to eCornell who donated a certificate for $3,600 worth of online courses. The certificate was auctioned off, and the proceeds were used to support the Georgia chapter’s scholarship fund.

Atlanta Lodging Outlook 2018

A crowd of 340 area hotel industry professionals attended the 19th annual seminar.  This year’s event was held at the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead.  Our host was Brian Ettelman ’87, Director of Catering.

Atlanta Lodging Outlook is organized by the CHS Georgia Chapter with promotional assistance from the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Georgia Hotel and Lodging Association. The seminar is designed to provide hotel owners and operators with the information they need to prepare their marketing plans and budgets for the upcoming year.

CHS Georgia chapter Vice President Sachin Desai ‘14 opened the proceedings, followed by Jim Sprouse, President of the Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association.

During the first half of the seminar, Kirk Kinsell ’80 moderated a discussion on current sales and marketing issues. The panelists included Brian Berry ’91, SVP of Revenue Management for Host Hotels and Resorts, Apo Demirtas, Ph.D., CEO of Intelligent Hospitality, Natalie Osborn, Director of Marketing for SAS Hospitality and Gaming, and Kathy Hood, VP of Sales, Marketing and Revenue Management for Davidson Hotels and Resorts.  Special thanks to Bob Gilbert ’82, President and CEO of Hotel Sales and Marketing Association International for helping put the panel together.

A crowd of 325 area hotel industry professionals attended the 17th annual seminar. This year’s event was held at the InterContinental Hotel in Buckhead. The CHS Georgia Chapter was honored to have Professor John B. (Jack) Corgel Ph.D., the Robert C Baker Chair of Real Estate, serve as moderator for this year’s forum. CHS chapter President Sophia Lin-Kanno ‘05 opened the proceedings, followed by Jim Sprouse, President of the Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association.

During the first half of the seminar, Professor Corgel facilitated a discussion on real estate development activity in Atlanta, and how it impacts the local lodging industry. The panelists included Jim Stormont (Johnson ’85) – President & Lead Principal of the Stormont Hospitality Group, David Marvin – Founder and President of the Legacy Property Group, and Robert Voyles – Principal & CEO of Seven Oaks Company, LLC.

Following the discussion on real estate development, a panel of local area experts presented their outlook for 2016:

  • Roger Tutterow Ph.D., Professor of Economics at Kennesaw State University
  • Mark Vaughan, EVP and Chief Sales Officer for the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • Mark Woodworth ’77, Senior Managing Director of PKF Hospitality Research, a CBRE Company
