On May 16, 2019, the Hawaii chapter gathered at the Prince Waikiki hotel to welcome Neil Tarallo, SHA Senior Lecturer of Entrepreneurship and Academic Director of the Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship. Mahalo to Neil and his wife, Paula, for making the trip out to Hawaii and for spending time with us.

CHS Reception at FITUR 2020 Conference

On Wednesday, January 22, 2020, Hotelies from around EMEA attending the FITUR Conference in Madrid gathered for food, beverage and networking. The event was held at the Posada del Dragon in the Caja Baja.

This event was supported again by Eduardoi Igueras and Jean Frabcois Marbrut of Continuum Hotel Services, Albert Grau and Bruno Hallée of Cushwake and their great network. Thanks to all we were very succesful with a great number of participants.

We would also like to express our sinceres thanks to the host of this Get Together – Lars von der Wettern, co-owner of the Posada del Dragon who once again provided superb finger food and selected wines prepared by his excellent team lead by Maria Florez. We would like to mentioned as well, that the participation fee will be again donated to people needing this help.

Hotelies Join Other Ivy Leaguers At Van Gogh Exhibit

On Thursday, January 30, 2020, several Hotelies joined other Ivy League alumni at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt to view the “Legend of Van Gogh” exhibit. After the exhibit the group met for drinks and dinner at “Zum Gemalten Haus”, a traditional Apelwein restaurant in Sachsenhausen.

CHS Hawaii & Cornell Club of Hawaii Ring in the New Year

On January 16, 2020, more than 30 proud Cornell alumni and guests (including two current students) celebrated the new year at the beautiful Hawaii State Art Museum. Members of CHS Hawaii and the Cornell Club of Hawaii were able to reconnect and enjoy a delicious dinner provided by Artizen by MW.

CHS NYC 2019 Holiday Party

On December 12, 2019, CHS NYC hosted the CHS NYC Holiday Party at the Pierre Hotel – Two E Bar. With 55 attendees, guests enjoyed the historic hotel’s sophisticated residential-style lobby lounge over light bites and cocktails.

97th Annual CHS NYC Reception

On November 11, 2019, CHS NYC hosted the 97th Annual CHS NYC Reception at the Gramercy Terrace on top of the Gramercy Park Hotel. With roughly 300 attendees, the evening of networking and fellowship was fueled by delicious cocktails and hors d’oeuvres served by Union Square Hospitality.  Following the reception, guests enjoyed the exclusive Rose Bar for an intimate post event gathering.

CHS Norway Hotelier of the Year – 2019

Jury Chairman Morten Thorvaldsen, HON., Executive Vice President of Thon Hotels and Honorary Member of Cornell Hotel Society, presents Hotelier of the Year Award 2019 to Anne-Margrethe Tveit, together with Lise Raanaas Haavind, jury member and representative of Pals, one of the main sponsors for the Award.

The presentation took place at Scandic Hotel Fornebu, Oslo with 600 attendees, during the annual HSMAI Travel Industry Oscar Award with prizes to hotels and travel companies that have distinguished themselves in different categories during the past year.

Anne-Margrethe Tveit is GM of Quality Hotel River Station, Drammen. She will, as the winners each year, participate in the two-week GMP (General Manager Program) course at School of Hotel Administration, Cornell University, which this year starts May 4th, all expenses covered thanks to sponsors in the hotel and travel industry and their suppliers.

Cornell Hotel Society Norway has worked with HSMAI Norway since 1992 and in 2003 they started together the:

Young Hotelier of the Year Award

for leaders in the hotel industry under 35 and in 2010, the

Hotelier of the Year Award

was initiated for more experienced leaders over 35.

Chapter Norway participates in contacts with sponsors to cover the all-inclusive expenses for the winners’ participation at GMP. HSMAI has the administrative work for the Award.

CHS New England Holiday Party

On January 6, 2020, the New England Chapter gathered to celebrate their accomplishments of 2019 and ring in the new year. Over 70 alumni and guests attended the event held at The Colonnade Hotel in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. Special guests included Dr. Kate Walsh, Dean of the Hotel School, and Meg Keilbach, Associate Dean of Alumni Affairs. CHS Global Board members in attendance included Dexter Wood ‘87, Richard Adie ‘75, and Andrea Foster ‘96. The evening featured a school update from the Dean, live music, and a silent auction and raffle to support the Chapter’s scholarship fund.

CHS DC Young Alumni Panel

On Friday, January 10th, 2020, the CHS Washington DC/Baltimore Chapter hosted a young alumni panel at The Kimpton George Hotel for Freshman and Sophomore students on a real estate career trek with the College of Business Office of Career Management. Ray Martz ’93 organized the two day trek and CHS was happy to play a part in the trip, which also included stops at Marriott, Hilton, Federal Realty, RLJ Lodging Trust, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, NKF Lodging Capital Markets, and Kimpton Hotels & Resorts.

A panel of 2016 and 2017 graduates shared experiences and offered insights to students on their time at school, finding a career path, internships and their jobs soon after graduation. The panel included: Jack Henry Kapp ’17, Brookfield Asset Management; Meredith Jonker ’17, Artemis Real Estate Partners, Noelle McHugh ’16, TBC Hotels, The Bernstein Companies; and Emma Ackerman ’17, Pebblebrook Hotel Trust. Anna Chung ’03 of Brookwood Hotels moderated the panel. Ms. Chung is CHS Global President for 2020.

CHS Germany Meets in Frankfurt

We welcomed Cornellians and guests of one extended patchworc „ family at the occasion of the Hotelforum goes Heimtextil at the Lengley Lindenberg in Frankfurt on January 8, 2020 for one CHS Get Together and Site Inspection.

The Site Inspection showed us one very special and unique concept of guest-community with various outlets for each member (guest ) including Indoor-Farming with herb garden, vegetarian restaurant and other public rooms, designed also for longstays.

Filled with owned fresh baked bred and homemade cider and one delicious ten course vegetarian dinner and cozy conversation as only Hotelie’s and their „patchworc“ can imagine.

A special thanks to Nils Jansen for hosting and providing us with interesting news of this new concept and relevant activities of their successful guest-community and connected providers for natural products from the region in Frankfurt as well local partners in Sierra Leone and India.

We where pleased by the donation of the contribution for the Dinner by Andreas Martin VP of Hotelforum and the participation of our Sponsor Philipp Von Bodmann Managing Partner of Achat Hotels in Germany.

During the exciting get-together the open discussions turned around the new challenges coming up for our industry during the Interior, Architecture, Hospitalty by the Heimtextil.

According our Motto „ Hotelie for Life „ we looking forward to meet you again in other exciting locations or fairs and with best wishes for you all in 2020.
